How fingerprinting is protecting participants in WeGuide

In this article, we will explain how WeGuide is using fingerprinting in order to protect the participants that are using our app

How to use fingerprinting in WeGuide

Within the WeGuide participant application we have implemented device fingerprinting to enhance security. When you login to WeGuide and enter your mobile or e-mail, we identify the characteristics of the device that you're logging in with and create a unique fingerprint for this. When you press on the Magic Link that you'll receive via e-mail or SMS, we will check if the device that you initially logged in with is the same as the device that you used to open the Magic Link. In case the device is not the same, then we won't log you in.

Example of the error that users will see if they open the magic link on a different device.

Device fingerprinting serves as an additional layer of security. It ensures that the magic link is clicked on the same device it was sent to, making it significantly more challenging for unauthorized users to gain access. Even if an attacker somehow obtains the magic link, they would also need to access the same device to complete the login, adding a crucial layer of security.
