How to add data points to your survey

In this article, we will explain to you how you can add data points to your survey.

How to add data points to your survey

In case you want to add a response from a previous form into the text of the current survey, you are now able to add data points from previous forms to your new form.

For example, you can use this to refer back to answers from participants that they have given to a previous form.  So if a participant has provided their condition as "Poor" in July, you can ask a question saying "Would you still describe your condition as "Poor""?

Follow the steps underneath to add data points to your survey.

Step 1: Add data points to your form

  • Go to a form that is not in Published mode yet. Once the mode is published, you won't be able to add any new data points to your form. Click on the + Add Data Point button.

Click on the + Add Data Point button to start adding data points to your form.

  • Select the form and the question key that you want to add as a data point. Once you've done this, you can use the data point in your survey by using the question ID, we will explain this underneath.

Select the question key that you want to use as a data point in the survey.

  • NEW! You are now able to add participant attributes as datapoints as well. For the data source select Participant attributes and then select the participant attribute that you want to use, as shown below. In the example below, we've select a custom participant attribute that is added to this organisation. In order to find out how to do this, view this article:

Step 2: Use the data point in your form

  • The following question types are supported as data points.
    • Single choice select
    • Multiple choice select
    • Text
    • Email
    • Number
    • Date
    • Time
    • Date & Time
    • Year
  • Other question types are currently not supported.
  • Now that you have added a question as a data point, you can use it in your form. You can use it in the following sections:
    • Question title
    • Subtitle
    • Option labels
  • Adding your data point in any other question section is currently not supported.
  • Use the complete question ID (including the form ID) to use the data point in your survey. See underneath for a few examples:

Step 3: See the data point in your form

  • If the participant now completes your updated form, they will see the data points that you have injected in your form. See the screenshot underneath.
  • In case the participant has completed the data point multiple times, then their latest entry will be shown.
  • In case the participant has not completed the data point, then there will be a blank space.
  • In case the participant belongs to multiple records, then the data point will only be visible if the previous data. point was collected for the same record. Data points collected for different records won't be visible.

Example of injecting the data point in an existing survey. The participant here has answered Coca Cola as their drink preference in a previous survey.

Step 4: Use datapoints from the same form!

In case you want to use a datapoints from an existing form, you don't need to add it to the form as a data-point, it's available automatically. Similar to previous forms, use the short name of a question in the existing form in brackets (e.g. [mental_health_today]) and the datapoint from the existing form will be injected.
